‘Kenny vs. Spenny’ Returns For A Sixth Season

Fans of the cult hit Kenny vs. Spenny can rest assured their favourite dualists will return this fall with a sixth season, Tara Ellis, vice-president of Showcase and drama content for Canwest, told TV Guide Canada exclusively.

“I’m not sure how many episodes, but it will be back in the fall,” she confirmed.

A fresh season of the Canadian series didn’t look likely last December when stars Spencer Rice and Kenny Hotz split to work on separate projects. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Rice admitted the partnership was more or less over. “We wish each other the best,” he told the publication.

“I hope we work together again, but after 80-odd episodes in a reality show, it’s starting to get into how many permutations of competitions can we get into where we don’t start to repeat ourselves.”

Conversely, Hotz told Tv guide last year he was still unsure about whether they would proceed with a sixth season of the Showcase series, but that was pretty much the feeling every year.

“Is it the last season? I don’t know. Every year we say it is,” he admitted. “We’ve been asked to do a movie and it’s not enough money to sell out. If they offer enough, yes — but for the measly money I make, it’s not enough.”

Hotz was also working on the Showcase series Testees, a comedy revolving around two men who rented themselves out to a product testing company, whereas Rice was busy with The Movie Network’s flick Confessions of a Porn Addict.

Ellis said the network is still deciding on a potential second season of Testees, and that Canwest’s main focus for the upcoming season is to bring more one-hour dramas to the surface.

She did add that Rice is currently working on a half-hour pilot for Canwest called Single White Spenny, in which he plays a man who finds himself navigating life in search of love after his wife realizes he’s a man-child and dumps him.

Kenny vs. Spenny will once again film in Toronto for its sixth season. No official return date has been announced
